(5/2002) Nancy reports "Rhythm won his best ribbon
over fences last Sunday (with me riding!) a second he's really getting
very sharp and the judges like him a lot. First Year Greens here we come!"

Nancy Frenick writes, "Rhythm is just the biggest ham, he greets
me when I come out to the barn and everything goes in his mouth, you really
have to watch him. He'll grab your jacket (gently) and hang onto you as
if to say "hey, pay attention to me!" He loves kisses and will
just stand there and let me faun over him forever -- he's really a loving
horse, which is what I want because he is a member of the family and not
just for performance. Everyone, including his vet, loves him for his personality,
and my vet will just come to the farm even if I'm not able to meet her
to give shots because he, and Proxy (his 24 year old mare-friend) just
come to greet her. One thing that he's done since he was a baby is jump
on his own in his paddocks. I have some permanent natural jumps and he'll
just trot or canter right over them if he gets the urge. I just love to
watch him figure things out. He really is handsome, and he knows it. Whenever
we're at a show he goes around with his ears up, just in case someone
is taking his picture. At the shows everyone, strangers too, will say
how beautiful he is, what a good mover he is, etc. I've had top judges
tell me the same. He's developing quite an ego. One thing that everyone
also notes is that he's barefoot -- haven't had shoes on him yet. He has
the best feet, and my farrier said that unless the stonedust rings at
shows starts chewing them up to leave him as is. I haven't run into jumping
on grass yet, which may be my only concern. I think most people wonder
why, but when they see him move he proves to them that barefoot is best.
I actually persuaded my dressage instructor to pull the shoes on one of
her horses, and she was amazed at the difference. Unfortunately my mare,
who's been retired for 4 years now, always has to wear front shoes, and
she's been on biotin forever. Rhythm's lucky. I could go on and on, but
I really need to get back to work. I'll definitely keep in touch, because
again, I'd love another baby Sundance someday."
